GroupWise allows you to set up an automated reply that you can use when going on holiday. This type of message is called a Vacation message. Please follow these instructions carefully. If in doubt, please contact the Helpdesk (see our contact page for details).
- Open the Tools menu and select " Rules ".
- A window named " Rules " will open.

- Click on " New ". At the top of the form, add the rule name "Auto Reply "

- Near the bottom of the window, click on " Add Action " and select " Reply "

- Make sure " Reply to sender " is selected, and that " Include message received from sender " is NOT selected.

- Click OK. You will get a " Reply " message window. In the subject line, we suggest you write something like "message generated automatically" or "automated reply" to let your correspondent know that a machine is replying to their message. In the Message box, put in any details you like, possibly alternative contact information if this can be useful. The window should look a bit like this now:

- Click OK, and the rule should look exactly like this:

- Click on the Save button. The " Rules " windows will now look like this:

- Note the tick in the box in front of the rule you have just created. If you want the rule to be active, leave the tick there. If you want to disable the rule (e.g. on your return), remove the tick. You can now close the window and Have a Good Holiday !
It would be a good idea to ask a colleague to test your auto-reply by sending you an email message. We will be happy to test your rule for you if you contact us at Helpdesk.
If you want to re-use this rule later, you just need to make sure it is enabled (it has a tick in the box on the left of the rule's name. You can edit the "Auto reply" rule by selecting it, and clicking on the "Edit" button. The click on "Edit Action" and change the details you want.
Remember : if in doubt, contact us at Helpdesk (details on contact page).
